West Coast were forced to strip back their list when playing sizes were reduced ahead of the 1994 season. As a result, a number of talented players were shown the door, some of whom (like Derek Hall and Matthew Burton) would go on to have fairly useful careers at other clubs. In the draft, West Coast picked up the athletic Fraser Gehrig with its first pick.
