The major move made by West Coast in the offseason was the recruitment of full-forward Scott Cummings in a straight swap for Jarrad Schofield. Utility Chad Rintoul was acquired cheaply from the Crows. Eagles captain John Worsfold was joined in retirement by Tony Evans, with neither's body allowing him to continue.

West Coast picked up 250-gamer Andrew Embley late in the national draft, the sole shining light in an otherwise disastrous draft period - the remainder of the draftees combined for just three games. On the plus side, Laurie Bellotti and Chad Fletcher became the first players to be promoted off the club's rookie list.
