A member of the Eagles' victorious first-ever side, Paul Peos played more than 50 games in two stints at the club.

West Coast career part 1[]

Hailing from Manjimup, Peos was another of the “Magnificent Seven” in WA’s 1985 Teal Cup side, along with Worsfold, Lewis, McKenna, Sumich etc. He was heavily courted by Carlton but elected to stay in Perth and become a member of West Coast’s inaugural squad.

A strongly-built half-forward, Peos took the field in the first-ever West Coast side in the Round 1 win over Richmond and got the first recorded kick. He ended up playing 11 games for the year and another 11 in 1988, but struggled with injuries throughout his career and was never able to fully cement his place in the side.

It got worse in 1989, Peos managing just 5 games for the season. In 1990 Peos, who had not played at senior level since round 3, was recalled from the wilderness for the final home and away round. After a strong performance against the Cats, he held his spot throughout the finals series that year.

Similarly in 1991, he was recalled late in the year after a long spell in the WAFL and played in the qualifying final at Subiaco against Hawthorn, but managed just four touches for that game and lost his spot the following week. He was unable to win back selection and watched from the sidelines as West Coast were beaten by the Hawks in their first-ever grand final appearance.

In 1992 Peos added another 9 games to his tally for a total of 51 in six years, and although he was named as an emergency for the victorious Grand Final he sensed his career would be best served by a move elsewhere.

Brisbane Bears career[]

Peos was traded to Brisbane at the end of the year, and played 33 games in two season at the Bears.

West Coast career part 2[]

Having left Brisbane at the end of 1994, Peos was redrafted by West Coast in the pre-season draft and played another 4 senior games in 1995 before being delisted at the end of the year.

Post-VFL/AFL career[]

Like a number of his former Teal Cup teammates, Peos went into coaching, having a short stint as East Perth’s senior coach and a longer, and highly successful, stint as the head coach at Hale School. He spent 2011 as an assistant coach at Subiaco under former teammate Chris Waterman.
