From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Sydney had held the lead from the nine-minute mark of the first quarter, enjoying a 21-point break at quarter-time, 14 points at half-time and a 10-point buffer at the final break.

The first quarter, in which the Swans kicked five goals to one against a strong wind, was probably the decisive period in the game.

Despite trailing for most of the game, the Eagles battled hard throughout, despite the dual handicaps of an ineffective forward line and a desperate Swans defence.

In the flukey wind, most of the third quarter was a midfield slog with the ball rebounding from one 50-metre arc to the other as neither forward line could break through."[1]
