Founded in 1896, Subiaco joined the West Australian Football League in 1901 and has since won 14 premierships, including recent victories in 204, 2015 and 2018. Known as the Lions and wearing maroon and gold, the club played their home games at Subiaco Oval until 2004 when they shifted to Leederville Oval, sharing the ground with East Perth.

The club's city "zone" includes the inner north-western suburbs of Perth such as Karrinyup, Carine and Sorrento, while its country zone includes Kalgoorlie, Boulder and Esperance.

Eagles players to have been recruited from Subiaco include premiership players Dean Kemp, Brett Heady, Drew Banfield, Dwayne Lamb, Karl Langdon, Chad Fletcher, Tyson Stenglein (via Adelaide) and Dom Sheed and Brownlow Medalist Matt Priddis.
